I’m afraid of only five things.

5) AI
4) Raccoons
3) Needles
2) Clowns
1) Heights

‘Nough said.

I secretly have a guilty please for The Black Eyed Peas, The Offspring and The Vandals too.

Out of Touch

Posted in Ramblings on April 18, 2011 by With a K

I’ve been deciding to let my blog die. I really don’t care. I’ve never liked writing a blog, and I opened this one to just give it a shot again. I still don’t like it. I don’t even know why I’m writing in this blog. I’m having lots of trouble typing for some reason as of late too.

None of this has to do with what I’m writing about. A few days ago, I bought a skate video…off iTunes none-the-less. I was pretty stoked on this video too. Seeing parts of people who I haven’t seen a part for in god knows when. And the video was great, but through watching it, with half the skaters in it, I’m thinking to myself, “who the hell is this kid? I’ve never seen or heard of him in my life.” This was a couple of days ago. But last night, I was talking to one of my old skate buddies on AIM, and that made me realize how much I don’t know about it now. I pretty much quit skating once he moved to Vegas. He was a motivation to skate. He was always down and wanted to, but once he left, the crew just sort of split up and I started doing nothing but working. Anyway, we got to talking and we both agreed on how bunk skateboarding has gotten. I’m all about making money, and making money doing skateboarding would be cool, but everything in skating since I quit is super produced now. In the video I bought, half of it was in HD (the video has been in the works for 10 years so a lot of it was old footage too). The HD and the editing in it looked way too fancy. I got board with the arty-ness. What happened to the skateboarding where dudes were making money and producing these videos with low production values where it would be clip after clip to some garageband’s latest song, or an old Slayer song? Those were the days. It makes me feel old and bitter. Rabble rabble rabble.

If I Had a Billion Dollars

Posted in Ramblings on February 2, 2011 by With a K

After my little babbling about cars the other day I felt this would be a fitting follow up. Kika had also asked me what the first thing I would buy would be if I had a billion dollars. My answer was a house. My answer hasn’t really changed from that…at all. She then proceeded to ask me what I’d buy after that and I said a nice car. Now that I have this billion dollar idea seed planted in my head, I was wondering how much money I would need to buy all of my dream cars. Through a little research I came to discover that the billion dollars would be nowhere near enough to own, maintain, and drive all these cars. The cars alone would cost roughly between $5.5-6 million. I can’t imagine what the insurance on those cars would be too! On that list, twelve of the cars were over six figures. Two of those cars are over seven (the Lamborghini Reventon costing $1.3 million or more and a Ferrari F60 costing $1.2 million or more). I could do without the Enzo being I’m just not that in to them. That Reventon I want so bad though! Too bad there’s only twenty of them made. Well, technically twenty-one, but the extra one was built as product number 0 in the Lamborghini Museum.

I guess I wouldn’t really need to drive all those cars. But I want to be douchey like Jay Leno and drive around 80-year-old Bugattis around town. It also makes me realize how much money that guy has. It’s ridiculous. I think $2 billion would be perfect for me.

Ideal Car

Posted in Ramblings on January 29, 2011 by With a K

I’m losing my mind again. Pricing out cars I’ll probably never get. Thinking of crazy features the car probably doesn’t have. Finding reasons to write a blog entry. It’s just insane. I just wanted to compile a little list of things my idea car would have.

First off, I want a Heads Up Display (HUD). My Bonneville has it. I can’t imagine not having one. It’s ridiculously useful. It gives me so much info without taking my eyes off the road. And it’s not distracting at all. I mean, literally, it is not distracting. They do so much more than my car does not too. Ideally, I would want the one in the ZR1’s. I want to know how many G’s I’m pulling around a corner. And GM does HUDs right. They were the first company to put them in a car as standard.

This one I don’t even know if it’s possible, but a regular manual transmission, but it has a mode to switch to a paddle shift. I mean, of course if that’s not possible, I want just the paddle shifts. Even just a sports transmission. Being able to have the option to switch to sports mode on a car makes me cream. When I drive my mom’s G8, sports mode all the way. It’s never in automatic.

This is really unnecessary, but a launch control. This is probably a feature I would never ever use, but having a launch control on a car is just insanely selling for me. No reason why. I want to launch off a freshly greened light one day. I like the launch controls that the computer tells the brake to release once the engine reaches a certain number of revs. Those are the breast!

A super charged V8. I have a super charged V6, and it’s powerful as hell. And it’s in a saloon. I feel like the V6 could be so much more if it had those two extra cylinders.

This sort of goes with the engine in my car, but I want an engine that is mounted forward. With that power that’s in my car, because it’s mounted sideways to accommodate for space, if I rev the engine, all the torque moves the engine in a way that it feels like it’s gonna get torn from the engine mounts. A plus to the sideways engines is the torque steer. If you don’t know what that is, it’s what pulls your car in one direction from the engine turning. With the sideways engines you don’t get that as much because the momentum of the engine is spinning forwards or backwards depending on your engine. It doesn’t eliminate it, but most cars like that drive pretty straight.

A lot of the things I want in a car are related to my likes and dislikes of my current car. From that, I know RWD is the way to go. I have so many problems with FWD. I could go with an AWD too, but RWD is my idea. Drifting…lulz. Anyway. I don’t like FWD because of all the stress that’s put on the front end. Not only do you have the turning stress put on the front end, but you also have all the pulling force for the driving itself. With all the FWD cars my family has had, they’ve all had a broken axel. It’s annoying to have to deal with that. Something that bothers me a little less about FWD is the understeer. You really have to slow down around certain turns. There’s been countless occasions where I have understeered going to fast. At least with oversteer that you would experience more in a RWD, you can compensate for that with a little power. Kick the ass of the car out for show.

A coupe. I love muscle cars and sports cars. Two doors. Muscle cars can fit people in the back. Sports cars not so much. I’d go with a muscle car. They always look so cool. Challengers, Chargers, Mustangs, Camaros. They’re hot! And V8’s baby! Yeah. I said baby.

Those are pretty much pretty cool features I really like in cars. I figured I’d make a fat list of cars I like now (in no particular order except alphabetical).
1965 Aston Martin DB5
2008 Aston Martin DB9
2008 Aston Martin DBS
2008 Audi R8
2005 Cadillac CTS
1962 Chevrolet Corvette
1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray hardtop (split window makes me poo!)
2010 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
Citroën GT (concept car but makes me cream. looks like the Aston Martin One-77 kinda but it’s a Citroën!)
1982 DeLorean DMC-12
1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
2010 Dodge Challenger R/T
1969 Dodge Charger R/T
1969 Dodge Charger Daytona
2009 Dodge Charger R/T
2009 Dodge Charger Daytona
2011 Dodge Charger R/T
2009 Dodge Super Bee
2010 Ferrari 458 Italia
1990 Ferrari 512 TR
1988 Ferrari F40
2003 Ferrari F60 (Enzo)
2005 Ford GT
1968 Ford Mustang Fastback
2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt
2010 Ford Mustang
2010 Holden Commodore
1989 Lamborghini Countach
2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera
1967 Lamborghini Miura
2009 Lamborghini Murciélago
2008 Lamborghini Murciélago LP640
2009 Lamborghini Murciélago SuperVeloce
2008 Lamborghini Reventon (just for its ridiculousness)
2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
2010 Nissan GT-R
2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi
2010 Pontiac G8 GT
1967 Pontiac GTO
1978 Porsche 928
1985 Porsche 944
2007 Porsche 997 GT3 RS (lime green)
2005 Vauxhall Monaro VXR
2010 Volkswagen Golf GTI
2008 Volkswagen Scirocco

I probably left out tons of cars, but I spent a half hour compiling that list. Suck it!

While I was in the shower I couldn’t believe I forgot this car! I had actually searched to buy one and had found one that I considered purchasing had it not been across the U.S. I love this car for so many reasons and I’m actually going into why it is on the list, but it’s one of those cars that’ll probably not be a head-turner. When I’ve mentioned this car to people they go, “I have never heard of that,” or “that’s a Lamborghini?” The 1972 Lamborghini Espada. This thing is crazy. Two door. Massive four-seater. People forget about it because it was not a very Lamborghini-ie looking car and it was always overshadowed by the Miura.

The other car I didn’t put on the list, but I did think of, but am now putting it on the list, is the 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C. I’m not really a fan of Alfas, but as Jeremy Clarkson always says, “you can’t be a true petrol-head without ever understanding owning an Alfa.” Something along those lines. I want an Alfa just to understand. I had a cousin who had one, and that ball of smoke that it was makes me understand what Jeremy Clarkson means whenever he talks about Alfas. I put the 8C for a few reasons. It’s a ridiculous car. So pointless to Alfas not so great lineup. The other is it is speculated that it will be similar to the 2012 Dodge Viper when it returns after its discontinuation after the 2010 model year. I’m not really a fan of Vipers, but that just sort of sounds hot. Alfa/Viper mashup. When I look at the 8C, I can see how the front end would be modified to fit a Dodge persona.

I feel like this year was a weird year for music. I felt 2010 was a weird year in general! I mean, THE GIANTS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!! I’m not going to lie, I never thought I would see the day my favorite team ever would win. It was a dream come true. A lot of dreams came true for me in oh-ten. I’m not getting into it though. I’m pretty over my blog anyway. Anyway, I’m doing like I did last year, top five albums of 2010 and top five movies. Cliché and simple. List the albums/movies and a little reasoning why. Straight forward. I’ll put a link to iTunes this time for the albums…I guess the movies too. I dunno.

5) “Requires Attention” by Cursor Miner
Cursor Miner is a dude you have to be crazy to be into. I’m kind of crazy. This isn’t an album I put on repeat like I can do with “Cursor Miner Plays God,” but “Minibar” is a pretty choice track. It’s just sort of fun. Still on the Cursor Miner note, “U Want to Want” off of “An Explosive Piece of Mind” is pretty choice. I compare Daft Punk to Cursor Minor…Daft Punk sucks and Cursor Miner is God in my eyes!

4) “TRON: Legacy” by Daft Punk
This is actually sort of ironic. I hate Daft Punk, and I’m ranking their album higher than Cursor Miner’s. Whatever. Their electronic shit blows, but when they mixed it with the orchestral work for a soundtrack (and a soundtrack for TRON at that!) it was actually pretty genius.

3) “Got Cock?” by Revolting Cocks / “Pinkerton” by Weezer
This is a nice little tie. I couldn’t really put “Pinkerton” on their by itself because it came out in 1996, but Weezer released the Deluxe Edition. It has the “Good Life EP” tracks on it and I love those songs! Plus it’s “Pinkerton”! “Got Cock?” is nothing like Weezer shit. In fact, it Ministry with some other dudes (originally). Now the Revolting Cocks are a stand alone band. I fell in love with this album strictly for the “Me So Horny” 2 Live Crew cover.

2) “Full-Time Mountain Shiner” by Mr. Turkey (and His Lazy Circus Friends Band)
I can’t link to iTunes for this one, but I’ll link to a site where you can listen to this. Mr. Turkey is post Millbrae Brothers. It’s basically the same stuff, just a different drummer, a bassist, and a second guitar. Kyle still writes everything. He’s very Neil Young. Mr. Turkey is a little MIA at the moment. There was supposed to be two albums last year, but I don’t know what happened. I need to talk to the bassist and see what happened. I can never get enough of Kyle’s music!

1) “Something for Everybody” by Devo
I seriously thought Devo was on a permanent reunion tour, but then they dropped the “Watch Us Work It” single (which is only on the deluxe album), and got really excited. I pre-ordered the album as soon as it got announced and bought the “Song Study EP” which had the first two tracks. It was classic Devo. It became my go to album through Europe that summer. I downloaded it in London on my iPad when it got released! This album was totally worth the 20 year wait from “Smooth Noodle Maps,” and like a good chunk of reviews say, it is the best Devo album since “New Traditionalists.”

click the album covers for links

This is just sort of out of the blue, but “Since I’ve Been Loving You” by Led Zeppelin just came on and the squeeky kick drum pedal drives me insane through the song!!!

Anyway, movies. I didn’t see many movies that year. I imagine there’s lots I saw that didn’t make the cut…like Due Date and Get Him to the Greek which I just removed because I remembered Red. That movie was bad ass. So, of the movies I saw (sorta), this is my top five.

5) Red
I like this movie for the pure badassness. Explosions. Guns. Bruce Willis. Choppers. Top Gear. Dodge Challengers…wait, I got sidetracked with Bruce Willis jokes that Jeremy Clarkson makes. That movie was good though. And I saw it with friends. I like explosions. And Bruce Willis. I’m a mongoloid.

4) TRON: Legacy
I actually didn’t see this movie, but I’d put it on here anyway, so fuck it. Jeff Bridges always wins my heart! Wait! Fuck this! True Grit was bad ass! I’ll tie these two together. True Grit and TRON were my number four. Jeff Bridges.

3) Iron Man 2
This movie was actually pretty disappointing. I was looking forward to this since Iron Man came out. Iron Man was always my favorite super hero growing up. It has explosions and RDJ. Instant win! AND IRON MAN! I’m seeing men right now just thinking about the action in this movie. The action does that not good script justice. Action just makes a poorly written movie good.

2) Toy Story 3
I grew up on the first one. That movie was really good. TS3 was really good too! It doesn’t let down compared to other Pixar movies too. It tore at my heart strings. It’s the same plot as the other two TS, but the way Pixar does that and makes the same movie new and remaining good amazes me! And the animation!

1) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
A comic book movie that can chicks can dig too! I love the video game references and all the Mac system sounds throughout. Words can’t describe how good this movie is to me. And it’s a cute story. I like these little lovey-dovey stories. They make me happy. The soundtrack was epic-to-the-max too!

Not all these will have a link. I mean, some of the movies are still in theaters for Christ’s sake!

I’ve Been Letting You Die

Posted in Ramblings on December 17, 2010 by With a K

I’ve sort of been letting my blog die. I was actually writing up a nice entry comparing Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5. I wound up scrapping it because it got really rambly and didn’t flow. Basically it boiled down to, they’re both really good games, but Forza is way better. We waited all these years for GT5 for a mediocre game. Forza 4 is just going to smoke GT5. I also went and saw Weezer again. That was fun. They played a fun setlist, then for the encore, they played “Pinkerton” in its entirety. I like that method better than how Megadeth and Slayer did it.

I went to the zoo today too. I hadn’t been there since around high school. It was all drizzley and we were worried it was closed, but it wasn’t. It was probably the best environment for the zoo. There was no one there, and the animals weren’t shy. The gorillas were kind of in hiding, but the baby was outside playing out in the rain. The cuteness was just erupting all over the zoo. Then it started to pour and it sucked. I brought my camera with me, but left it in the car thinking that the animals would be all lame and couped up, but I could’ve gotten some awesome shots. I snagged a couple with my phone of the scary cat!

I have a feeling I won’t post again for a while because I’m busy busy busy and crazy crazy crazy. I foresee the next post being my end of 2010 top fives, like everybody does and like I did last year.
